This year's World Cup was one for the record books. On June 4, South Korea ended a 48-year drought with a 2-0 win over Poland. This victory is the first for the Asian nation in World Cup Games. In another World Cup first, China made its debut but did not find the net once in losing all three of its matches. The first World Cup tournament held in Asia also saw the defending champions go scoreless through the first round of play. France failed to score a single goal, and along the way they became the first reigning champion to get knocked out in the first round since Brazil in 1966.
