　　军营里过星期天，中尉连长告诉全体士兵说：“凡是要进城的人都要衣冠整齐，我要亲自检查。”

　　第【1】串：lieutenant中尉

　　The lieutenant is too strict to the soldiers that they are all afraid of him.

　　弗莱德是一个新兵，正准备外出，他第一个来见中尉，中尉一抬头，说：“你的头发太长了，理完发再来见我。”

　　第【2】串：to have one's hair cut理发

　　I have to have my hair cut, for mother says it is so long for a boy to have such long hair.

　　弗莱德到理发室一看，里面挤满了人，轮到他要等很长时间。

　　第【3】串：be crammed with塞满

　　There will be a meeting in this hall, so it is crammed with many people standing now.

　　他灵机一动，马上回营房把皮鞋擦得又光又亮，飞快去见中尉。“报告，中尉，”弗莱德把头抬得高高的，“请看，我的皮鞋擦亮了吗？”“嗯，比刚才亮多了。”

　　第【4】串：to polish shoes擦鞋

　　In most people's eyes, to polish shoes for others means losing face.

　　中尉足足看了3秒钟才回答，“你现在可以进城了，不过，要记住，下次外出，要先擦皮鞋，然后再来见我。”

　　第【5】串：to bear in mind记在脑海里

　　You should bear in mind what your parents had told you before you left.
