Passage 2 阅读理解二 Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history. Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger. Why should people care? Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more. Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting. They are more than just a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animals can create many problems. For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks, the farmersstores of corn and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied quickly. Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Passage 4 判断正误 One moonlight night Beethoven was walking in a street when he suddenly stopped outside a little house. "What is that? It is from my Sonata in F. How well it is played!" Following a sudden break came the voice of sobbing. "I cant play any more. This piece of music is so difficult to play. How I wish I could hear Beethoven himself play it!" "Ah, my sister, but we are so poor." said a young man. "And the ticket to the concert is too expensive." "Dont be sad, brother," said the girl. "I just said that for fun." Hearing this, Beethoven knocked at the door, and it opened. In the dim light of a candle a young girl was sitting before a piano and a young man was making shoes by the table. "Pardon me." said Beethoven, "but I heard music. You wish to hear..." He stopped. To his surprise he found the girl was blind. "Excuse me. Then you play by ear? Butswheresdid you hear the music?" "I used to hear a woman practising pieces in the opposite house. Her windows were open and I walked outside to listen to her." Beethoven said no more. He sat down before the piano.
