It sounds crazy, but scientists have found a way to make clothing from vegetable waste.
A factory in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province will produce ten thousand tons of it per year.
The textile is a lovely, silky fiber made from waste material left after soybeans are used to make Tofu. In China the source material is abundant and low cost. Soybean residue is left after soybeans have been crushed to recover soybean oil.
The treated fiber is a new type of textile material. It has the advantages of both cashmere and mulberry silk. It will absorb and release moisture and provide both ventilation and warmth. Soy Silk is valued for its quality, shine, and softness.
Consumers are keener than ever to use natural products instead of materials like nylon and rayon which are made from petroleum. The new product is expected to be popular with environmentally aware customers.
