英语表示强调往往通过单词、词组或某些特殊句型来实现.最常用的强调方式有以下几种:

　　I.用单词或词组表示强调

　　1.用very, just, only, single或反身代词来对名词或代词加以强调.如:

　　I was the only person in my office who was invited.我是我办公室唯一被邀请的人.

　　He finished it himself.这是他自己完成的.

　　2.用even, still, much, many, a little, a few, a lot, a great deal, rather, by far等来强调形容词、副词的比较级.如:

　　Mary runs much faster than me.玛丽比我跑得快多了.

　　He studies even harder than before.他比以前学习更加努力了.

　　3.用词组no matter, on earth, in the world, at all, let alone, in heaven, nothing. . . but等强调疑问或否定含义的句子.如:

　　He can not speak English, let alone German.他连英语都不会说,别说是德语了.

　　4.用助动词do来强调谓语动词.如:

　　I do hope you have a merry Christmas!我衷心祝福你圣诞快乐!

　　Do do it again!一定再做一遍.

　　5.用great, large, a good, quite等来修饰表数量的词或词组.如:

　　I have learned quite a lot from them.我从他们那里学到了许多.

　　A good many students have passed the final exam.许多同学通过了期末考试.

　　II.用句型表强调

　　1.用"It is/was+被强调部分+that/who+原句剩余部分"句型可强调句子中除谓语动词以外的任何部分.如:

　　My mother threw an egg at the Minister of Education yesterday.→

　　It was my mother who/that threw an egg at the Minister of Education yesterday.是我母亲昨天向教育大臣扔了一个鸡蛋.

　　2.用"What. . . is/was. . . "句型.这种句型主要用来强调主语或宾语,其特点是将被强调部分后移.如:

　　Her coming delighted me.→What delighted me was her coming.使我高兴的是她的到来.

　　这种句型也可用来强调谓语动词.如:

　　I gave her a good chance.→What I did was to give her a good chance.我所做的是给她一个好机会.

　　III.在话语中的强调形式

　　这种强调的最主要的手段是改变读音--被强调的词语音语调比正常情况要高,音量比较大.如:

　　"You are a policeman.↗"said the driver.这位司机说:"原来你是一名警察."

　　IV.在书写中的强调

　　这种强调形式常用大写字母或在词下面加横线或用黑体来表示.如:

　　Give it to ME!把它给我!

　　Come now.现在就来.

　　Nobody loves me.没有人爱我.

　　V.用一些特殊的语法结构来强调句子的某个成分

　　1.把强调部分移到句首,但要注意有时需用"倒装"语序.如:

　　That film, what did you think of it?那部电影,你觉得怎么样?

　　Never have I been late for school this term.这学期我从来没有迟到过.

　　2.用重复某些词的方法来强调.如:

　　She looks much, much older now.她看来现在老得多了.

　　3.使用尾句也是一种强调方式.如:

　　He is a funny chap, he is.他是个古怪的家伙,真的.
