1.In Japan, someone who sees another person making the gesture will think it means money. 在日本，有人看见对方做这个手势，就认为是金钱的意思。

　　In France, a person seeing the same gesture will think it means zero. 在法国，有人看见同样的姿势，就会以为是零的意思。

　　【问】上面两句中都用了see, 那么上句里的who sees能不能也写成seeing呢?

　　【答】可以。在英语里，有些定语从句，其关系代词如果作主语，且谓语动词是主动语态，往往可以改为现在分词作定语。这时候，如果V-ing是单独修饰名词，则常前置；如果是V-ing短语修饰名词，则常后置。如：

　　The girl who is dancing is my classmate. → The dancing girl is my classmate.那个跳舞的女孩是我的同学。

　　The mother is looking at her baby that is sleeping.→ The mother is looking at her sleeping baby. 母亲看着她正在入睡的婴孩。

　　Who is the boy that is answering the professor's question? → Who is the boy answering the professor's question? 回答教授问题的那个男孩是谁？

　　The new hospital which is being built is just near our school.→The new hospital being built is just near our school. 正在建造的新医院就在我们学校附近。

　　2. We can learn a lot about what a person is thinking by watching his or her body language. 通过观察一个人的身势语，我们可以了解他或她的许多想法。

　　【问】about的后面为什么要跟疑问词what呢？

　　【答】learn about表"了解有关"，其后面如要跟一个宾语从句，则其第一个单词常常是一个疑问词；这个疑问词除了what外，也有可能是how, where, when等。这要取决于它在宾语从句中作什么成分。

　　Have you learned anything about what he is living on without any help from his parents?你知道他在没有父母亲的帮助下靠什么生活的吗？

　　I learn nothing about where he is working on his revision right now. 我一点儿不知道他现在在什么地方忙于他的复习。

　　3.There are also differences as to how often we touch each other, how close we stand to someone we are talking to, and how we act when we meet or part. 我们身体接触的频率、谈话双方站立的距离、见面告别的动作也有差别。

　　【问】句中的as to作何解释？

　　【答】as to 在此用作连词，引导从句。意为"关于，至于"，但常不翻译出来。如：

　　Every week they received reports as to what was going on.每周他们都收到关于正在发生什么事的报告。

　　She had no idea at all as to what she ought to do. 她根本不知道她该怎么办。

　　另外，as to还可用作介词，意为"关于，说到"，后接名词。如：

　　As to money, he is indifferent. 关于钱，他漠不关心。

　　4...., there is nothing better than to see the smiling face of a good friend. ……，那么没有比看到好友的笑脸更好的了。

　　【问】本否定句是否带有肯定意义？

　　【答】是。否定词+比较级有时可表示非常肯定的意义(有时相当于用最高级)。如：

　　I can't agree more. 我非常同意。

　　We couldn't feel better. 我们觉得太好了。

　　Nothing is more valuable than health. (=Health is the most valuable.)没有什么比健康更重要的。

　　Never have I seen a more beautiful lake than this one. (This is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen.) 我从没有见到比这更美的湖了。
