--instead 与 instead of 辨析

　　高一英语(上)第三单元有这样两个句子：

　　Instead of spending your vacation on a bus, in a hotel or sitting on the beach, you may want to try hiking.

　　Instead of simply travelling for pleasure, you can use your trip as a way to protect the environment.

　　再看NMET98的相关改错题：

　　We must keep in mind that we play 91. √

　　for the team instead ourselves. 92.

　　instead与instead of都可以表示“代替; 相反; 而不是”，instead (of)无论是在课本还是在高考中都不止一次出现，可以说既是教材的重点，又是高考热点，很有必要对其总结、归纳。

　　1. instead

　　instead作副词，没有比较级形式。单独作状语常置于句尾，当然也可以置于句首。如：

　　Last winter I went to London; this year I'm going to New York instead. 去年冬天我去伦敦了，今年我要到纽约。

　　If you have no cream, use milk instead. 如果没有奶油，用牛奶代替好了。

　　2. instead of

　　用作介词，意思是“取代; 而不是”。要注意instead of前后的结构应该对等。instead of后可以跟名词、代词；动名词或动名词复合结构；动词不定式；形容词、副词；介词短语等。

　　1) instead of后跟名词、代词。如：

　　Chinese people prefer using chopsticks instead of forks and knives. (Unit 6)中国人喜欢用筷子而非刀叉。

　　He will go instead of you. 他将代你去。

　　2) 跟动名词或动名词复合结构。如：

　　Instead of studying, she surfed the Internet. 她没有学习，而是上网了。

　　3) 跟动词不定式。如：

　　跟动词时一般用动名词，但是当不定式与不定式形成对比时，也可以跟不定式。如：

　　He is trying to sell instead of to buy. 他在试着卖而不试着买。

　　He went there to gain money instead of to spend money. 他去那里是为赚钱, 而不是花钱。

　　4) 跟形容词、副词。如：

　　Things are better instead of worse now. 现在形势更好，而不是更坏了。

　　You should be out instead of in. 你应该出去，而不应该呆在家里。

　　5) 跟介词短语。如：

　　In summer I often read under a tree instead of in the house. 夏天，我常常在树阴下看书而不是在屋子里。

　　They went there on foot instead of by bus. 他们没有乘公共汽车去那儿，而是步行去的。

　　综上所述，可以看出NMET98改错题的第92题正确改法应该在instead 后加of。
