1.“more than＋名词”表示“非但……尤其是”。如：

　　Jack is more than a teacher, he is a writer, too. 杰克不但是一名教师，更是一名作家。

　　2.“more than＋数词”含“以上”或“不止”之意，相当于over。如：

　　I have known her for more than 4 years. 我已经认识她4年了。

　　The old man is more than seventy years old. 那老人已经70多岁了。

　　注意：more than one做主语时，谓语动词用单数形式。

　　More than one person was injured.不止一个人受伤。

　　3.“More than＋形容词”等于“很”或“非常”的意思。如：

　　In doing scientific experiments, one must be more than careful with the instruments. 在做科学实验的时候，一定要非常小心实验设备。

　　I am more than glad to meet you. 我非常高兴见到你。

　　4.在“more...than...”中，肯定“more”后面的而否定“than”后面的，意为“与其……不如……”,表示一个人作两种不同性质的比较时，原来加er的比较级一律改为前加more, than后可接名词、形容词、数词、动词和从句。如：

　　My brother is more stupid than clever. 我弟弟是愚蠢而非聪明。

　　She is more a teacher than a scholar.与其说她是学者不如说她是老师。

　　5.“More than”＋含“can”的分句时表示否定意思。如：

　　That's more than I can afford.那我承受不了。

　　Don't want more than you can eat up. 吃不了就无需要太多。

　　6.“No more...than...”表示“不……；不如……”。如：

　　I can no more do that than anyone else. 我做的不如其他任何人。

　　7.“more than”也在一些惯用语中出现。如：

　　more often than not 经常

　　People tend to pay attention to what they can take more than what they can give. 通常，人们只关注他们所得到的而不是他们所付出的。
