One day in August I was building a brick wall in an air-raid shelter when there was an enormous explosion. Everything was shaking; I thought it was an earthquake. There were dead bodies all over the place. It was weeks later that some American journalists told me that it had been an atom bomb. In 1946, I developed a lump on my head that's been there ever since.
