Host: Good evening. Welcome to today's adult's final. Many agree that young people are the most energetic and active minds. They have plenty of time of life to think, to learn and to try. Yes. They have a lot of questions and ideas in their minds. Some of the questions they are mostly likely to ask themselves are what do I need most? Do I need wealth, romance, or power, or something else? And which is more important? Capability or opportunity? How to deal with cooperation and competition? As to today's the finalists of the competition, one of the most concerned questions might be can I go through the competition and stand out as number one? Yes. So to find out the answer, stay with us in today's competition. And the nine finalists will answer all these questions. And to start with, we will introduce you the judges. Mr. Rick Oshea, Professor Chen Jianlin, Mr. Walter Gregg, Mr. Xu Xiongxiong, Professor Gu Yueguo, also chairman of this panel of judges, Professor Feng Zhilin, Professor Gordon Coffman, And professor Lou Yun. Welcome back to CCTV's Fourth Annual Star of Outlook English Talent Competition. And now you are watching adults' final. In today's competition, we have totally four rounds: speech, listening, translation and debate. And now we will start the very first round - speech. Now let's welcome the contestant of this part, contestant No. 14, Wang Qian, from Jiangsu. Say stop.

  Wang Qian: Stop.

Host : It's letter B. Let's see what letter B stand for. We have a word behind that letter. It's romance. Ok, listen carefully to our topic. What young people need most now is romance. That's your topic. Now you have 15 seconds to think about that and then 45 seconds to complete your speech. Let's start. Are you ready?

Wang Qian: Ok. With development of our society, now the young people in China will have more and more pressure. For example, they have to study and work very hard to survive our society. So they are really in lack of romance. Romance will bring our life a lot of happiness. Maybe it will also bring you a very exciting experience. Only if you can enjoy the romance in your life you will feel that your life is so beautiful. So I think the young people now, they have to find some time and enjoy themselves and really enjoy the romance in our life. That's all. Thank you.

Host: Now let's welcome the next contestant, contestant No. 1, Cao Yijun from Shanghai. Welcome back. Please look at the screen and say stop when the letters are flashing.

  Cao Yijun: Stop.

Host: C. Letter C of the word power. So the topic became what young people need most now is power. You've got 15 seconds to think about that. Now you can start your 45-second speech.

Cao Yijun: I think the most important thing for our young students to have is power. But besides power, I think ambition and dream are very necessary, because lots of students have power, but I think they should have ambition because with dreams they can pursue their dreams and ? They can do a lot of work, they can do a lot of jobs. That's all.

Host: The next one is contestant No. 13, Pan Yu, from Jilin. Welcome. Our topic is what young people need most now is, we have a blank. Please select a letter.

  Pan Yu: Stop.

Host: Ok, what young people need most now is romance. The same topic as contestant No. 14. That's your topic. What young people need most now is romance. And you've got 15 seconds. It's time for you to give us the speech.

Pan Yu: A very interesting topic. Young people need most now is romance. Do you agree? I think so, because nowadays as we are campus university students, most people will fall in love with each other. But I think that romance does not only mean that, because our study and knowledge also need romance. As in some western cultures, some people, such as Italian people, is famous for that. And French people are also good at that. So if you want to learn a foreign language, we also get some of their personality, that is romance. That is our study romance. Another is love romance. But love romance is not only for girls, and also boys like that. And we don't forget our parents. Our parents also need our romance to them, though we have generation gap. That's all. We all love romance. Thank you!

Host: The first three contestants finished their speeches. And now one of the judges will give some comment on their performances. Professor Gu.

Professor Gu: Ok. We are lucky . The two contestants have chosen what young people need most now is romance. And I think it's quite right. Nowadays, in the competitive world, everything is commercialized. And time is very limited for romance. So I think what is really needed most is really romance. So I quite agree with the two contestants. They are lucky to choose this topic. However, if I were one of the contestants, I would argue more for the need of romance, particularly in terms of say the commercialization, when everything is commercialized. Even people they had romance before, now because of commercialization they lost the romance for example. Some of the issues the contestants didn't mention. If I were the contestant, I would do that. Thanks.

Host: Thank you! Let's continue the competition. And next one ? contestant No.8 Zhao Wei. Welcome back! ? Your letters flashing on the screen.

  Zhao Wei: Stop!

  Hosts: A.

  Zhao Wei: Ok.

Host: So what young people need most now is wealth. That's challenging. You've got 15 seconds to think about it.

Zhao Wei: Yes, young people today most need wealth, because with money we can support ourselves and be independent from our parents. And in that way, we will no longer be a burden to our parents. We will be able to seek a higher purpose in life, because what young people now is wealth. With money and material support, we can finance our education and learn more things to prepare for the future. And in the future, what we need most perhaps is no longer wealth, but a higher purpose in life. We can live our dreams, because without money, without material help, we will not be able to live up our dreams. That's all. Thank you!

Host: And now it's turn for contestant No.10 Zhang Hanbing. Welcome back! All right, we have a topic for you and the topic is young people need most now is, we have a blank here. We'll have several letters flash here. Say stop.

  Zhang Hanbing: Stop!

Host: It's F. So 15 seconds to think about it.

Zhang Hanbing: Thank you! What we talk about today is that we young people most need is health. Just two days before, I caught a cold. I was so scared about that because I take part in such an important competition today. So I took some medicines. I did all kinds of protections to protect myself. I take hot showers that kind of things. At that moment, I realized that old people say that the most important thing for people is health. As for our young people, I think we have a lot of dreams to wish them to come true. So how do we do that? Only we've got health is the key point to our plan to the future. Thank you!

Host: Thank you. Really a short period of time to demonstrate her own points on this issue. Anyway, she has done a good job. And now the judges will be working on her scores.

Host: Okay, the next one is contestant No. 5 Sun Jingjiao from Liaoning. Welcome back. Now is your turn to say stop as the letters are flashing on the screen, ok?

  Sun Jingjiao: Stop.

Host: D, letter D. And the topic is what young people need most now is opportunity. 15 seconds to think about it.

Sun Jingjiao: Young people now face more and more opportunities. Since our nation has come through the WTO and we have come into the globalization era, so I think opportunities are really more and more. So as for our university students, we face the problem of getting into the society. And now we have so many choices, because of the so many opportunities, so we can study abroad, we can choose as many jobs as we want. I think it is the benefits that opportunities give us. So we should try our best to make good use of them.

Host: We are now in the first round speech. Six contestants have finished their speeches about the topic. And now we will welcome the next contestant, contestant No. 4 Xie Rui from Guangdong. Hello. So we've got a blank here. We need you to fill it in. And first please select a letter by saying stop.

  Xie Rui: Ok, stop!

Host: It's letter E. And what's that? Responsibility. So listen carefully. You topic is what young people need most today is responsibility. 15 seconds.

Xie Rui: Well, in fact, nowadays responsibility contains many conceptions. However, for children or teenagers, they have to be responsible for themselves, because nowadays more and more children are (from) one child family. They lack the responsibility of caring others.

Host: Thank you. Ok, so now let's give the floor to the next speaker, contestant No. 9, Zheng Chenguang from Beijing. Welcome back. And here we've got a topic with a blank in it. And please, by saying stop, choose the letter.

  Zheng Chenguang: Stop.

Host: It's F. we've known that F is health. So your topic is what young people need most today is health. You've got 15 seconds to get prepared.

Zheng Chenguang: Ladies and gentlemen, first of all, I think we should ask ourselves one question: what is the foundation of everything, success and accomplishment in work? It is not money, it is not your knowledge, it's health. I think young people nowadays need most is health. Only they possess good health can they study well, can they continue to study well. We don't want to see the phenomenon that young people are sick and lying in hospital. I think they can no longer continue their studies. To me I think the health is the foundation of everything, especially to young students. Thank you.

Host: Thank you very much. Yes, you're correct. Health is really important. And I especially like the comparison that health is like one and everything else is like zero. And with the One digit, everything will become zero. Some will become zero. Please enter your score for contestant No. 9.

Host: The last one in this round come with the topic are? contestant No. 6 Cheng Lin. Welcome, the thirty-year-old contestant Cheng Lin from Chongqing. Please say stop and then decide which word.

  Cheng Lin: Stop.

Host: Ok, letter D. Opportunity again. Your topic is what young people need most today is opportunity. You've got 15 seconds to think about that. Please give us your speech.

Cheng Lin: Ok. Young people should get as many opportunities as possible. This is my point. And why? Because I think young people are the glorious future of our country, young people are the glorious future of the world. And also some young people are really very talented, in coping with problem, in dealing with relationships with people. But some people really don't want to give them opportunities. And here I want to say, if you want to give our country a glorious future, give the whole world a glorious future, opportunities should be given to them. Thank you very much.

Host: Thank you. Ok, let's listen to the judges' comments on these contestants' speeches. So Mr. Gregg.

Mr. Gregg: I think for these people to come out in front of these audience and speak the second language of theirs in the manner of which they did, so concise, so clear, and such a short brief time to prepare, 15 seconds. Very very impressively done. Obviously from what I heard yesterday, this is the queen of the crown of China. As a native speaking American, I don't think I've ever been as impressed with people knowing the English language as I have with these guys here, with the ladies and gentlemen here. I gave full points to many of them, because that's what I thought in my heart. The passion they showed, the talents they showed, the determination, the perseverance, I think they deserve every point they got. Thank you.

Host: Just now the nine contestants have finished the first part speech. And now let's enter in the second round listening. Hello again, this is the second round. What do you want to say to yourself?

Wang Qian: I just wish myself good luck.

  Host: Good luck to yourself.

  Wang Qian: Thank you.

Host: Ok, please select a number from the ten numbers on the big screen.

  Wang Qian: Number three.

Host: Ok, and now let's watch video clip three.(U571) So please get ready for the three questions I have for you. For the first question, why were these nine men posing as Germans.

Wang Qian: Because the Second World War happened and there were just caught and posed to be Germans.

Host: Ok, this is your answer to question No. 1, ok? Let's move on to question No. 2. What did these men have to depend on if they want to complete the mission? Please name two points.

Wang Qian: They have to, don't get afraid of this war. And they have to be instinct? I guess that's the two reasons I can point.

Host: Ok. The third question is what are the horrific conditions these ordinary men faced?

Wang Qian: They are facing extraordinary conditions, as the director mentioned.

Host: Would you like to elaborate a little bit more on that?

Wang Qian: In such an extraordinary they are facing extraordinary conditions.

  Host: Ok, that's it?

  Wang Qian: Yeah.
