苏珊在美国教育考试服务中心时，主持包括托福考试的英语命题工作，有了很特殊的机会，让她了解到中国学生在英语方面的长处和困难。二十多年来，无论在教室里或公司里，她听到了很多各位所关心的问题。
她个人也一直在努力提高她自己汉语的沟通能力，她亲身体会了两个语言之间的很多差异，也很清楚的知道要真正掌握好第二个语言的困难。

When I was Director of all ESL test development at ETS, and oversaw the TOEFL® test, I had a first-hand opportunity to see which questions Chinese learners were best able to tackle, and which questions left you puzzled. Over the years-- In the classroom and in the workplace-- I have heard about your concerns, and have observed your strengths and weaknesses.
Additionally, I have been trying improve my communication skills in the Chinese language for many years. This means two things: 1) I know how English and Chinese language conventions differ and 2) I remember clearly how challenging it is to become truly proficient in a second language.
Each of you will have different areas of interest and will want to focus on different aspects of learning. This section contains six separate sections for your convenience:
