　　naught means nothingness,表示什么也没有的意思。例如：All their work was for naught.

　　他们所有的工作都只是白做。naught常用的短语有come to naught = go for naught毫无结果;等于零;终归失败。naught还有零的意思。例如：Put two naughts after a six to make six hundred.在6后面加两个零成为600。

　　for the sake of是说为了…缘故的意思。例如：Never do wrong for the sake of money.

　　绝不要为金钱而做坏事。
