　　男人和女人的关系是艺术作品的一个永恒主题，这个世界本来就是由男人和女人组成的嘛。可说来也奇怪，尽管当代女性正取得与男人越来越平等的社会和经济地位，两性之间的隔膜似乎并没有因此而消除多少。《男人百分百》正是一部探讨男人如何认识和了解女人的传奇喜剧，讲述了百分之百的男子汉——广告人尼克(梅尔·吉布森饰)如何在遭到意外电击后拥有了一种能听到女人心声的特异功能的故事。编导似乎在暗示我们：要想了解任何一个女人的心理，男人一定要仔细地倾听她的心声，反之亦然。

　　Divorced Nick Marshall is a men's man, the leader of the pack, the kind of man other men look up to and admire, but just doesn't get what women are about. As a creative director in a big advertising company, he'll send you on more errands than anyone in the entire company. He is the least politically correct<注1> guy in the universe, though he is quite talented and is the king of all the ads his company is doing. As a father of a teenage daughter, he is more like an uncle, Uncle Dad. To women, Nick is a charmer.

　　Nick was actually born and raised in Las Vegas. His mother was a showgirl.<注2> When other boys were outside riding their bikes and playing balls, Nick was backstage hanging with the showgirls. He was their mascot,<注3> their little pet. Since he did not have a father, his mom made sure that he was always surrounded by strong role models.<注4>

　　So now our Nick starts his late morning to work like a dancing bear. At the coffee shop, Nick tries to ask a girl out for dinner. The way he is doing it is graceful and irresistible for the girl. He arrives at his office with his charming manner, but today, something is happening in his company. The staff meeting is cancelled and he is called to go to his boss's office. Nick thinks he is going to be promoted. But his boss, Dan, tells him that the board decides to hire Darcy McGuire to be the creative director. Nick is disappointed.

　　On the staff meeting to welcome Darcy, she makes a speech, which Nick thinks is a nightmare. Then everybody is given a box, which contains several things women use. Darcy asks each person to come with an idea to present these products the next morning. Nick goes home and tries out those things. Unfortunately he has an accident and is electrocuted.<注5>

　　When Nick wakes up the next day, he finds that he can hear what women think, every woman on the street, in the office, and his colleague Darcy. This really terrifies him. Nick decides to get rid of the strange ability and turns back to his old self. He goes back home and tries to be electrocuted again but it is useless. He can still hear what women think. Now his world is very noisy. Not a little peace is left for him. He is desperate, afraid of every woman, the doorwoman, and the girls at the coffee shop. He is afraid to go to work.

　　With no one to turn to, Nick goes to see a doctor. The doctor thinks he is imagining things. She gives him a test: she thinks a number and asks Nick to speak it out. Nick does it without any mistakes. The doctor is thrilled and excited. She tells Nick that he does not have to throw away this wonderful gift as it can help him know what women want. The fact that he can hear what women think will make him the ruler of the world, at least the women's world. Nick is convinced.

　　Walking on the street in the middle of a large crowd of women, Nick receives all kinds of messages from them. He is so happy with his gift. Now he turns into a considerate man and wins women's heart easily.

　　Nike Company is doing an ambitious project, a project about empowering women with their products. They ask Darcy's company to design a series of advertisements wanting their ad to get inside women's head and reach them on a very real level. Darcy asks Nick to do the project for Nike, and he happily says yes and starts the new mission right away.

　　Nick's daughter, Alex, is a 15-year old school girl, pretty and popular. Her mother, Nick's ex-wife, is married again and now is off on a vacation. So she stays with her father right now. Occasionally, she brings her friends home. Nick is particularly not happy with the fact that she has got a boyfriend. But there is nothing he can do about it. Trying to be a sweet daddy, Nick offers to buy a prom dress<注6>for her as he knows from Darcy that it is important for a girl of 15. She is so surprised at the new change her father recently has that she thinks he must be stoned<注7>.

　　Nick now is surrounded by women, all kinds of women, reading their mind, and reacting the way they want him to react. He is getting more and more popular each day, and his work, more and more creative, and to the tastes of women. Darcy gradually grows fond of him and admires his insight and talent, especially his understanding of women and herself. A kind of strange feeling for Nick is building up in her and she is afraid of that. She has to run away from him once in his office as she suddenly finds herself so attracted to him. Nevertheless both of them grow closer and closer to each other.

　　One day, Nick goes shopping with Alex, trying to please her. However, the teenager does not think much of it and is fed up with his parental preaching<注8>. They part with each other in an unhappy mood.

　　At night, Nick feels bored and somewhat lonely at home. At this moment Darcy calls. She actually asks him out to meet for a drink. At the bar, Darcy talks about her life and her ex-husband. They have a great night. When they say good night to each other, the two almost feel like lovers. However, Nick controls himself and sends her off in a taxi.

　　In the process of designing the Nike project, Nick steals many excellent ideas from Darcy because of his special gift of being able to read women's mind. From time to time, Nick feels guilty and wants to tell Darcy the truth, but he never gets an opportunity.

　　During the meeting with the Nike people, who are all females, Nick makes a fantastic presentation, using Darcy's idea and even her exact words in her mind. He makes it so beautiful that Darcy completely admires him and so do all the Nike people. Nike buys Nick's design. As a result of Nick's huge success, the company fires Darcy, and promotes Nick to replace her.

　　Nick tells his boss to persuade the board to get Darcy back. But it is too late. Darcy has already gone. Nick tries to call her when he suddenly finds that the quiet and lonely girl who used to work in the office has gone, too. Nick recalls that for several times she is so upset and lonely in the office as nobody really talks to her or tries to be her friend that she wants to jump out of the window. Nick dashes to her home in a taxi to stop her from hurting herself. On the way to the girl's home, there is a heavy thunderstorm. When Nick arrives at her home, he finds that he has lost his ability to listen to women's minds. He is back to himself again. The girl is saved and Nick offers her a position to work with him.

　　Then Nick hurries to Darcy's place but she refuses to see him. At this moment, his ex-wife calls him and tells him that Alex has called her several times, and she seems to be in a big trouble. Nick dashes to the prom and finds her sobbing in the ladies room. It turns out that Alex's boyfriend wanted to have sex with her and she was really not ready yet. So her boy friend simply dumped<注9> her and went back to his old girlfriend. having listened to Alex's story, Nick suddenly realizes that his little girl has grown up. Trying to understand each other, father and daughter become closer.

　　At night Nick misses Darcy and wants to tell her the whole truth. He comes up to Darcy's apartment and tells her that she has her job back. He says that he is not here to be a hero rescuing her but he needs to be rescued and she is actually his hero. Two hearts beat as one now though Nick cannot hear what Darcy thinks. They kiss each other passionately.
