一、"The +形容词比较级……，the+形容词比较级……"结构，表示"越……就越……"。例如：

　　The more, the better.多多益善。

　　The more you study, the more you know.你学的越多，知道的就越多。

　　二、"the+形容词"结构，表示某一类人或抽象事物。表示人的时候谓语动词用复数形式，表示物的时候谓语动词用单数。例如：

　　The sick were sent home.病员被送回家。

　　The green is life.绿色象征着生命。

　　三、"形容词比较级+and+形容词比较级"结构，表示"越来越……"。例如：

　　It's getting warmer and warmer.天气越来越热了。

　　The computer sells cheaper and cheaper.计算机越来越便宜。

　　四、"倍数+as...as"，表示"几倍于……"。例如：

　　Asia is four times as large as Europe.亚洲比欧洲大三倍。

　　This radio costs twice as much as that one.这台收音机比那台贵一倍。

　　Changchun is ten times as big as my hometown.长春比我的家乡大九倍。

　　五、注意区别下列词组的涵义：more than多于，less than不到；少于，no more than只有；只不过，not more than不超过，no less than不亚于；有……之多，not less than不少于。例如：

　　There were no more than two small factories in that town before liberation.解放前，那个镇里只不过有两座小工厂。

　　There are not more than one hundred workers in that factory.那家工厂里的工人不超过一百人。
