英语中常用times来表达倍数，其常见句式有以下几种：

　　该句式表示"甲是乙的……倍"，其中名词通常为size, length, height, width等。例如：

　　Nigeria is three times the size of Great Britain. 尼日利亚是英国面积的三倍大。

　　The river is five times the length of that stream. 这条河有那条小溪五倍长。

　　句式二： ...times+as+adj. / adv. (原级)+as...

　　该句式也表示"甲是乙的……倍"，其中的adj. / adv. 通常是big, long, high, wide, fast等。例如：

　　Asia is four times as large as Europe. 亚洲是欧洲的四倍大。

　　This box is three times as heavy as that one. 这箱子是那箱子的三倍重。

　　该句式同样表示"甲是乙的……倍"。例如：

　　In this workshop the output of July was 3.5 times that of January. 这个车间七月份的产量是一月份的三点五倍。

　　The number of the students of 2003 was 3 times that of 1990. 这个学校2003年的学生数是1990年的三倍。

　　句式四： ...times+adj. / adv. (比较级)+than...

　　该句式表示"超过"的意思，译成汉语时为"增加……倍"。其中的adj. / adv. 的比较级通常是bigger, longer, higher等。例如：

　　The meeting room is three times bigger than our office. 会议室比我们的办公室大三倍。

　　This city is ten times larger than that one. 这个城市比那个城市大十倍。

　　句式五： ...times+up on+...

　　该句式也表示"超过"的意思。例如：

　　The industrial output of last year in our factory was three times up on that of 1987. 我们工厂去年的工业产量比一九八七年增加了三倍。(是一九八七年的四倍)

　　Your vegetable plot is four times up on ours. 你的菜地比我们的大四倍。

　　句式六： ...times+over+...

　　该句式也有"超过、增加……倍"之意。例如：

　　Their books are three times over ours. 他们的书比我们多三倍。

　　The grain output in that village is four times over that of 1978. 那个村的粮食产量比一九七八年增加了五倍。

　　注意：times作"倍数"讲时，只限于用于三倍或三倍以上的倍数。二倍以下通常用double或twice来表示。例如：

　　This package is double the weight of that. 这个包裹比那个的重量多一倍。

　　This railway is twice longer than that one. 这条铁路比那条长两倍。
