说起what, 同学们可能再熟悉不过了。有的同学说what很简单，因为翻译成汉语，它就两个字"什么"。但这只是它的外表而已。眼看就要期末考试了，在这里咱们总结一下what的用法，看看它是不是还有更深的意义。

　　I. 对谓语部分进行提问

　　例如： He often gets up at six in the morning.

　　What does he often do at six in the morning?

　　II. 对表语部分进行提问

　　A)对数字充当的表语进行提问

　　例如：1. It's eight thirty.

　　What's the time now?/What time is it now?

　　2. It's March 8th.

　　What's the date today?

　　【相关链接】what在很多情况下不译作"什么"，而是依照不同情景有不同译法。如在询问日期时，译作"几号"。

　　B)对形容词、名词充当的表语进行提问

　　例如：1. My brother is a doctor.

　　What is your brother?

　　2. My watch is broken.

　　What's wrong with your watch?

　　【相关链接】what与which都是疑问词，what意思是"什么"，通常用于没有选择范围或选择范围较大的场合；which意思是"哪一个"，常用于可供选择的范围。例如：

　　Which is your brother?(这些人中)谁是你哥哥？

　　What is your brother? 你哥哥是干什么的？(问职业)

　　疑问代词who与what都可以对人进行提问，但所表达的意思不同。who是对与别人的关系进行提问，what是对人的职业、身份进行提问。例如：

　　-Who is the girl? -She is Lucy's sister.

　　-What is the girl? -She is a doctor.

　　III. 对定语进行提问

　　例如：I like beautiful clothes.

　　What clothes do you like?

　　IV. 对宾语进行提问

　　例如： I'd like a cup of tea.

　　What would you like to drink?
