倒装语序分两种情况：全部倒装和部分倒装。全部倒装是将整个谓语都置于主语之前；部分倒装则只是把谓语动词的一部分如助动词、情态动词或系动词be等置于主语之前。在下列情况下用倒装语序。

　　一、由as/though引导的让步状语从句中，其基本句式为："形容词/副词/名词+as+主语+谓语"或"动词原形+as+主语+情态动词/助动词"。

　　1. Child as he is, he knows a lot of English.

　　(注：在这种情况下，当名词是可数名词单数形式时，前面不用冠词。)

　　2. Old as they were, they stuck to working.

　　3. Hard as he tried, he could't lift the stone.

　　4. Try as I might, I couldn't lift the stone.

　　二、为了使句子更加生动、流畅，而将in, out, down, up , back, over, away, off等用作状语的副词放在句首时，采用完全倒装形式，谓语动词多是不及物动词。

　　1. In came the teacher and the lesson began.

　　2. Down came the hammer and out flew the sparks.

　　3. Off went the horse.

　　注：主语为人称代词时，一般只将副词置于句首，主语和谓语语序不变。例如：

　　In he came and the lesson began.

　　三、表示地点的介词短语或表示方位的词组，如in the distance, in front of等放在句首时，主谓用全部倒装语序。

　　1. In the distance was a boat.

　　2. On one side of Tian An Men Square stands the Great Hall of the People.

　　3. West of the hill were two small houses.

　　四、由so...that...引导的表示程度的状语从句，如将so引导的副词或形容词放于句首表示强调时，主句的主谓倒装，无助动词时，要加上助动词。

　　1. So busy is he that he has no time to spare.

　　2. So fast does light travel that it is difficult for us to imagine its speed.

　　五、含有否定词的短语，如at no time,not a..., by no time, in no time, by no means等，放于句首时，主谓要倒装。

　　1. At no time should we be afraid of difficulties.

　　2. By no means will you consent.

　　六、 在表示祝愿的句子中，常常用倒装语序。

　　1. Long live the friendship between us!

　　2. May you return in safety!

　　七、在以here, there, now, then等副词开头的句子中，除then开头的句子用过去时以外，其余均用一般现在时(用一般现在时表示进行)。如果主语是名词，主谓全部倒装， 如果主语是代词，主谓不倒装，只将副词放于句首。

　　1. Here is a letter for you.

　　2. There comes the trolley-bus.

　　3. Now comes my turn.

　　4. Then followed three days of heavy rain.

　　5. Here you are.

　　6. There he comes.

　　八、在"such+be+主语"的结构中，常常用倒装语序。

　　1. Such was the story he told me.

　　2. Such was what Peter spoke at the meeting.
