完形填空是兼有阅读理解和单项选择特点的英语语言运用试题。但它又不同于纯粹的阅读理解和单项选择,而是补全性的阅读理解,是语境化的而非单纯语法性质的选择填空。它要求读者根据上下文的逻辑关系,甚至对整体的篇章理解,来选择符合语境和事理逻辑的正确答案。

　　My husband hasn't stopped laughing about the thing that happened to me. It's 1 now but it wasn't at that time.

　　Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in town, I 2 a rest before catching the train, so I bought a 3 and some chocolate and went to the station coffee shop that was a cheap, self-service place with long 4 to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and chocolate on the table to 5 a place, and went to get a cup of coffee.

　　解题指导

　　做完形填空应注意以下三点:

　　(一) 充分利用首句(标准命题一般首句不挖空)的信息,作为通篇答题的基础;

　　(二)注意前、后句和上、下文的逻辑关系,更应注意对文章的整体理解;

　　(三)不要企图一开始就依次给出每空的答案,好的完形填空命题往往要等到读完全文,才能知道文段的原委.本篇便是一个较典型的例子.

　　答案与简析

　　1. C。从开篇句的laughing以及本句后面的转折词but,可推断出答案是funny。如还不能确定,等读完全篇后,不难发现答案为C。

　　2. D。从后面的"so I...to sit at."一句可知此时作者还没有休息,可见A、B、C三项都不符合语境。

　　3. B.从本段最后一句的内容不难得知此答案。

　　4. B。根据后面作定语的不定式"to sit at",可指应该选此答案。sit at the table意思是"坐在桌子旁边";其余三项都不能与at搭配。

　　5. C。作者把报纸和巧克力放在桌子上又离开去买别的东西,只能解释为"占地方"。

　　6. D。从后面的情节可知,那位年轻人就坐在作者的旁边,即"next seat".两人不可能坐同一个座位,所以B是干扰项;既然有人坐,谈何"free seat",可知C项也不对。

　　7. B。根据下文该年轻人的衣着,尤其是那场误会带给作者的感受,可知用wild-looking"粗野的形象"是比较合适的。

　　8. A。本空须读到最后一段倒数第三句时,才能得出肯定答案。

　　9. B。前一句说"(他的装束当时并不是什么不同寻常)",即并不会使我感到意外,而本句的后部分说"他开始吃我的巧克力",就不能不使我感到惊奇了。

　　10. A。at the front page of the newspaper等信息,是选此答案的依据。

　　11. C。该答案的选择,必须读完全篇知道故事的原委后,才能确定。

　　12. A.很难相信现在眼前的情形,"我的巧克力"让他人随意吃。

　　13. D。年轻人在此之前已吃了两块巧克力了。

　　14. A。这句话的意思是"我非常生气"。

　　15. C。前一句说"I shall have the last piece.",所以就随之拿了最后这一片(got it)。

　　16. A。从故事的最后才知道为什么小伙子用奇怪的眼神看着她(原来她吃的是他的巧克力!)。

　　17. C。听到小伙子的叫喊 "This woman's mad!",周围的人还能不都愣愣地看着她?!stare"意为目不转睛地看"。

　　18. B。刚才感到silly,只是因为有人说她是"mad woman",而此时,当她发现自己弄错了,吃了别人的东西时,心情更糟糕。所以用"what was worse"来描绘。

　　19. B。发现自己弄错了,这是从后面的事实中"意识"到的。

　　20. D。后面的under my newspaper是自己的巧克力"还没有打开(unopened)"的注释。
