一、on作介词

　　1. on表示某种状态正在进行，后面接名词，意为"在从事……中"、"处于……情况中"。例句：

　　They are on journey. 他们正在旅行。

　　Were the workers on strike? 工人们在罢工吗？

　　Are they on a friendly visit to Japan? 他们在日本进行友好访问吗？

　　He is on his way to school. 他正在上学的路上。

　　2. on表示"以……方式(手段)"、"通过"。例句：

　　I heard the news on the radio. 我是从收音机里听到这个消息的。

　　He left on an early train. 他是乘早班火车离开的。

　　Did you cut your finger on a knife? 你的手指是被小刀划破的吗？

　　3. on表示"即将发生"。例句：

　　Have you got anything on (=to do) tonight? 你今天晚上有什么事吗？

　　There is nothing on (=to do) this morning, so let's go out. 今天上午没有什么事，所以我们出去走走吧。

　　4. on表示"根据"、"依靠"、"由于"等。例句：

　　This is a story based on facts. 这是一个根据事实写成的故事。

　　Do you live on rice? 你们以大米为主食吗？

　　He went to the United Kingdom on business. 他因商务而到英国去。

　　5. on表示时间，后面接表示动作意义的名词或动名词，相当于由when或as soon as引导的时间状语从句，含有"一……就……"、"在……后立即"之意。例句：

　　On the death of her mother, she was only 8. (=When her mother died, she was only 8.) 她母亲去世时，她只有八岁。

　　On my arrival (On arriving) home, I'll ring you up. (=As soon as I arrive home, I'll ring you up.) 我一到家就给你打电话。

　　On arriving there, we set to work. 我们一到那儿就开始工作。

　　6. on作为介词时的其他用法。例句：

　　Has he got any money on him? (on可用with或about代替) 他身上带钱了吗？

　　He was born on April 5, 1997. (具体某一天)他出生于一九九七年四月五日。

　　He made a report on the work of the government. (关于)他做了一个政府工作报告。

　　China faces the Pacific on the east. (相连，接近) 中国东临太平洋。

　　Do you know the tall boy on the United States team?(on=who is a member of) 你认识美国队那个高个子的运动员吗？

　　Don't be so hard on him. (对于，向) 不要对他太严厉了。

　　二、on作副词

　　1. be on通常用来表示"正在进行或发生"，on含有"继续"的意思。例句：

　　The fight was still on. 战斗仍在继续。

　　The light in her room is still on. 房间里的灯还在亮着。

　　The recorder is on. 录音机开着。

　　2. on作为副词时，还含有"在表面"、"穿着"等意思。例句：

　　Is the lid of a kettle on properly? 水壶盖盖好了吗？

　　She tried the shoes on. 她试着穿上鞋子。

　　The baby had nothing on. 这个婴儿一丝不挂。

　　3. on含有"上演"、"演出"之意。What's...on?是一个固定的表达方式，后面通常接时间或地点状语，表示"……(时间/地点)上演什么？"，on作表语。例句：

　　What's on at the cinema this evening? 今晚电影院上映什么节目？

　　There's a new film on at the cinema. 电影院正在放映一部新片子。
