1. further

　　adj. & adv. far的比较级 多指程度上“更进一步”，具有抽象意义。

　　I have nothing further to say. 我没有别的话要说了。

　　get further information 得到更详尽的消息

　　如果指具体的距离可和farther互换：

　　He can put the shot further / farther than I can. 他的铅球比我扔得更远.

　　2. add

　　vi. & vt. “加；加起来；补充说”。

　　If you add 4 to 3, you get 7. 四加三得七。

　　I should like to add that we are pleased with the test result. 我还要补充说一下,我们对测试结果表示满意。

　　add还常用于以下三种固定句式：

　　1) add... to... “把……加到……”

　　Please add my name to the list. 请在名单上加上我的名字。

　　2) add to “增加；增添”，相当于increase。

　　The news added to his anxiety. 这消息增添了他的忧虑。

　　3) add up to “总数达……；加起来等于……”。

　　These figures add up to fifty. 这些数字总计为50。

　　3. remind

　　vt. (常与of, 动词不定式及that从句连用)“使想起；使记起；提醒”。

　　Remind me to write to my mother. 提醒我给妈妈写信。

　　This reminds me of my childhood. 这使我想起童年。

　　She reminded me that I hadn't watered the flowers. 她提醒我还没有浇花。

　　4. whatever

　　pron. & adj. “无论什么；任何东西；一切事物”。

　　既可以引导名词性从句，也可以引导状语从句；但no matter what只能引导状语从句

　　Whatever is left over is yours. (引导主语从句，不能换成no matter what) 剩下来的所有的都是你的。

　　Do whatever she tells you and you'll have peace.(引导宾语从句，不能换成no matter what) 她叫你干什么你就干什么,那你就太平了。

　　Whatever happens, the first important thing is to keep cool. (引导状语从句，可以换成no matter what)不管发生什么事,头等重要的是保持冷静。
