Welshman famous in China by singing 'red 'songs

According to the BBC Chinese website on March 25, 30- year –old British singer Iain Inglis has found fame in China with his performances of communist revolutionary songs。

Inglis delighted Chinese TV audiences with his appearance on "China's Got Talent," dressed in a Red Army uniform and singing revolutionary songs。

The Welshman reached the semi-finals of the competition. Now Inglis is paid up to 50,000 yuan (US$8,050) for each performance he gives in China。

"I'm a tall, white foreigner from Wales singing songs about communism in Chinese," Inglis said, "It was a bit of fun to start off with, but the more performances I did, the more I was hooked. For some reason, the Chinese people seem to find it quite hilarious."

However, the enterprising expat -- who speaks Chinese, Russian and German -- felt disappointed that he had failed to obtain a higher ranking on "China's Got Talent."

Inglis has been living in China for eight years, ever since meeting his wife Yu Yanling on a plane. He taught himself to sing "red" songs, with a little help from a CD, starting with the very popular "Socialism Is Great."
