　　TRYING TO FIND A CHINESE NAME

　　试着起个中文名字

　　Phillip Beckman is living in China. He likes China. He likes Chinese

　　people and Chinese food. He thinks Chinese people are very friendly. They

　　The students at school often ask him how to spell his name. They sometimes

　　在向别人提出建议时，常用语之一是Why don't you ...?为什么你不?

　　Why don't you join us?和我们一块玩好吗?

　　2、Phillip tells them“ph”sounds like an“f”.

　　sound用作名词时意为“声音”。用作系动词时意为“听起来”，后面跟形容词；

　　sound like意为“似乎；听起来”，后面跟名词。例如：

　　That sounds a good idea.那听起来是个好主意。

　　It sounds very interesting.这听起来很有意思。

　　3、have to意为“必须”，后面跟动词原形。例如：

　　I have to leave now.我不得不走了。

　　辨析：must

　　往往着重于说话者的主观看法，认为有义务，有必要去做某事，意为“必须，应该”；haveto着重于客观的需要，含有“不得不”的意味，有时态变化。

　　4、not ...any more意为“再不”，“不再”。例如：

　　The old man doesn't live here any more.这位老人不住在这里了。

　　5、He is asking his friends to help him think of a name.

　　(1)ask somebody to do something意为“请(要)求某人做某事”。例如：Mother asks me to buy some milk.妈妈让我去买一些牛奶。

　　(2)help somebody (to) do something意为“帮助某人做某事”。例如：He helps me(to) repair my bike.他帮我修理自行车。

　　(3)在这里think of意为“考虑；思考”。例如：

　　We are thinking of a way to do it.我们正考虑一个做这件事的办法。

　　6、“It means a waste of time,”says Sun Yu with a laugh.

　　(1)a waste of意为“的浪费”。例如：It's a waste of money.这是浪费钱财。

　　(2)with a laugh意为“笑着”。with在这里表示“有；显出”，表示一种伴随状态。例如：

　　They come in with a smile.他们笑着走进来。

　　7、I would like a Chinese name like yours.

　　(1)I would like用于提出要求，正式用语是I should like...口语中常用I'd like...。提议时说Would you like ...?例如：

　　I'd like to have a cup of milk.我想要杯牛奶。

　　Would you like another piece of bread?再来片面包好吗?

　　(2)在这里第二个like是介词，意为“如同”。例如：

　　I want to buy a coat like yours.我想买一件你那样的夹克。
