汉语中的"等"及其重叠词"等等"通常用来表示同类事物列举未尽，它在英语中除有拉丁文et cetera的缩写词etc.外，还有其它一些习惯表达法。现举例如下：

　　1.他们把时间用在访友、读书、看电视等等上面。

　　They spent their time visiting friends,reading,watching television and so on.(《英语惯用短语词典》)

　　2.我们必须学习英国历史、建筑学等等。

　　We have to study English history,architecture and so forth.(《英汉大词典》)

　　3.她多次说她对自己所做的事表示道歉，说今后决不再做，说这是一个错误，等等。

　　She said many times that she was sorry for what she had done,she'd never do it again,it was just a mistake,and so on and so forth.(《简明英语短语辞典》)

　　4.我买了糖、茶叶、鸡蛋等等。

　　I bought sugar,tea,eggs and what not.(《简明英语短语辞典》)

　　5.他们玩足球、篮球、乒乓球、羽毛球等等。

　　They play football,basketball,ping pong ball,badminton and the like.(《英汉大词典》)

　　6.那个商店出售衣服、书籍等等。

　　There are clothes,books and what you have for sale in that store.(《英汉大词典》)

　　7.他买了杯子、碗、碟子等等。

　　He bought cups,bowls,dishes or what you have.(《新英汉词典》)

　　8.她通过向我提出劝告等方式给我帮助。

　　She helped me with advice and otherwise.(《最新高级英汉词典》)

　　9.乔治、梅瑞迪斯等人来吃饭吗？

　　Are George,Meredith and others coming to the dinner?(《最新高级英汉词典》)

　　10.我递送了一张订书单订购一些真正的好书，如《汤姆叔叔的小屋》、《草叶集》、《汤姆·索耶》、《嘉莉姐姐》等等。

　　I sent in a book order for some really good books,Uncle Tom's Cab-in,Leaves of Grass,Tom Sawyer,Sister Carrier and all.(《英语惯用短语辞典》)

　　11.我们所说的谷物是指小麦、燕麦、黑麦、大麦等等。

　　By cereals we mean wheat,oats,rye,barley and all that.(《英汉大词典》)

　　12.我们花了一个小时把旅游者扔下的废纸等等打扫干净。

　　We spent an hour clearing up all the waste paper and that which the trippers had left behind.(《英语惯用短语辞典》)

　　13.他们会替你打针等等，以治疗你的伤寒或其他什么疾病。

　　They will give inoculations and things to cure you from typhoid,orwhatever it is.(《英汉大词典》)

　　14.她对自己的功课等等事情很着急。

　　She was very worried about her course and everything.(《朗文现代高级英汉双解词典》)

　　15.我们带来了所有的设备和工具等等。

　　We brought along all the equipment and tools and such.(《英汉大词典》)

　　16.我们去动物园看到了大象、老虎、狮子、熊等其他动物。

　　We went to the zoo and saw elephants,tigers,lions,bears and the rest.(《英汉大词典》)

　　17.他年轻、英俊、受到过良好的教育，还有其他诸如此类的特点等等。

　　He is young and handsome and well-educated and all the rest of it.(《英汉大词典》)

　　18.那给了她更多的时间看书等。

　　It gave her more time for reading and that sort of thing.(《常用汉英同义多译手册》)
