What are language learning resources?
How can they help children and me? We'll look at these questions and at
two kinds of resources. |
1. What are language learning resources and
how can they help children? |
·Resources may be visuals, objects, or written
material you or children bring to class or make in class to help children
learn.
·Resources can include posters, pictures, flashcards, puppets, toys, masks,
books, and stories among others.
·Children get extra chances to practise English if they make resources,
talk about resources or use them. |
2. How can I decide if I should use resources?
|
·Use resources if they might
help children to learn. Pictures or puppets may be a good way to introduce
a story, for example.
·Use resources if they do not take too much time to find or make.
·Use resources if you can use them again for the same or different activities
with other classes.
·Use resources if you can keep them easily at school or at home. |
3. How can I use flashcards? |
·You can have pictures, words
or both on your flashcards.
·Make sure your drawings or words are big enough for children at the back
of the class to see.
·You can use flashcards to introduce new language(numbers, letters, sports,
daily routines, etc.)
·You can also use them to revise language children already know. Children
can guess or remember what's on flashcards. They can also tell a simple
story from pictures. Can you think of other ideas?
·Children can help you sometimes with flashcards. They can colour or draw
the cards, or bring magazine pictures to stick on flashcards. |
4. How can children use personal dictionaries? |
·Making and using an individual
dictionary is a useful educational skill.
·They can use them in class or at home to remember and practise vocabulary
effectively because they are personalising their learning.
·Children need an exercise book and pens or pencils to make their dictionary.
You can ask them to add words to their dictionary in lessons if there is
enough time for this, or after lessons if not.
·They can organise words in lexical sets or according to the alphabet, depending
on what works best for them.
·You can show them different ways to record words and let them choose. For
example, they can write English words and draw pictures, or use pictures
from magazines, write translations, or write English sentences. They can
combine these ways of recording words if they like. |
一、Summary |
Resources are anything that
helps children to learn. We have looked at criteria for using them, and
at two kinds of resources. Children get extra chances to learn English if
they can help to make resources. |
