　　什么叫反义词？意义相对立的一对或几个词，叫反义词 (Antonym)。如汉语的"好/坏、大/小、多/少"等等。又如英语的long (长)/ short(短)、high (高)/ low (低)、love (爱)/ hate (恨)、up (向上)/ down (向下)等等。

　　这是一组表示人的情感的反义词。love可作动词或名词，意为"爱，喜爱"。hate也可作动词或名词，意为"不喜欢，憎恨"。两个词作动词时不可用于进行时态。如：

　　He has a great love for sports. 他十分喜爱运动。

　　英美人对love一词用得很普遍，而中国人对其较谨慎。英美人在信的末尾(与熟悉的人之间通信)时也常写上"love, Lily"或"with love, Lily"等。曾经还有一位美国女青年邀请一位中国男青年去美国旅游，男青年以不会说很多英语为由而谢绝。美国女青年则问他会说哪几句，男青年说："我只会三句英语。

　　称某人为"朋友"时，如果听话者不知此朋友所指何人或无关紧要，可含糊地以a friend of mine/his/hers等表示。而在谈话过程中，彼此知道其为何人时则常用my friend来表达。因此，初次到朋友家拜访时，可以说"I'm John Brown, a friend of Paul's." 如说Paul's friend,则会让人感觉到是保罗的"特别的朋友"或"只有一人的朋友"。
