1.用作及物动词：

　　1) 意为“保存，保持”。Please keep the money. 请把这些钱保存起来。

　　2) 意为“继续，保持(某种状态或做某事)”。I will keep practising playing football. 我会不断地练习踢足球。

　　3) 意为“存放，保存”。I will keep the letters here. 我要把这些信保存在这儿。

　　4) 意为“养，拥有”。She will keep a large family, so she has to work hard.她要养活一大家子人，所以她要努力工作。

　　5) 意为“经营，开办”。She keeps a foreign language store. 她开了一家外文书店。

　　6) 意为“做笔记，遵守”。In order to keep his promise, he insists on keeping a diary every day.为了信守诺言，他坚持每天记日记。

　　2.用作不及物动词，意为“保持”：

　　Please keep quiet. 请保持安静。

　　3. 常用结构：

　　1) keep doing 强调状态的继续，常与表示延续性动作的动词或静止状态的动词连用(如：hope, think, wonder, sit, stand, lie等)。

　　She kept crying. 她一直在哭。

　　2) keep on doing侧重动作，常与表示短暂性的动词连用，不与静止状态的动词连用(如：sit, stand, lie等)。

　　I will keep on doing the same thing. 我将不断地做同一件事情。

　　3) keep away (from)使不接近

　　She let me keep away from here for a long time. 她让我离开这儿一段日子。

　　4) keep back阻止，扣下

　　I have some difficulties in keeping back her. 我很难阻止她。

　　He kept back my salary. 他扣留了我的工资。

　　5) keep...from...阻止……做某事，相当于 “prevent...from...或stop...from...”

　　Snow kept me from going there yesterday. 昨天，雪使我不能去那儿。

　　6) keep up继续下去，维持

　　You have been working hard, keep it up. 你工作一直很努力，请保持下去。

　　7) keep up with=catch up with赶上，不落后

　　We are old, we can’t keep up with the times. 我们老了，赶不上时代了。

　　8) keep off远离

　　Keep off the grass, please. 请不要践踏草地。

　　9) keep out使不入内，不接近

　　Come here and keep the people out. 到这儿来，不要让那些人进来。

　　10) keep house管理家务，当家； keep the house(某人)留在家中不外出，暂时看守房子。

　　My mother keeps house for me. 我妈妈替我当家。

　　He said he would keep the house until his mother came back. 他说他要看家，直到他妈妈回来。
