  1. I used to be a drug addict.

  1) He would go to the drug dealer and buy some cocaine when he was in terrible pain.

  2) Today's China is quite different from what it used to be.

  2. Both ways are dangerous. Users who inject the drug are also in more danger if they share needles with other users.

  1) “dangerous”和 “in danger”:要说明主语对其他人或事物构成威胁,通常用“be dangerous”,而“be in danger”表示主语自身处于危险之中。如:

Although the tiger is dangerous, some species are in great danger of dying out.

  2) share (sth.) with sb.

I left my textbook at home. Will you please share yours with me?

  3. Now I work in a center for drug addicts, helping others to stop taking drugs.

The boy broke into a house, stealing some money.

  4. Some people break the law in order to / so as to pay for their drugs.

to do sth., in order to do sth. 以及 so as to do sth.

He worked in a center for drug addicts in order to / so as to help others stop taking drugs.

We sent him to a center for drug addicts so that / in order that he could stop taking drugs.

  5. Some people feel so nervous that they call the police.

  1) so + adj./adv. + that-clause

  2) such + a(n) + adj. + n.

  = so + adj. + a(n) + n.(单数形式)+ that-clause

  3) such + adj. + n.

  4) such + adj. + n. (不可数) + that-clause

如: (1) The drug was so dangerous that he was almost dead.

  (2) It was such fine weather that they decided to go outing.

  (3) Cocaine was such a powerful drug that he became addictive to it at once.

= Cocaine was so powerful a drug that he became addictive to it at once.
