英语和汉语比较起来，汉语的动词用得比较多，这是一个明显的特点。由于汉语中缺乏和英语介词相关的词，在英译汉时，译者对于多数介词的处理办法往往是根据不同的语言环境，把英语介词译成汉语动词。笔者结合教学实践，将一些常用介词的汉译归纳如下：

　　1. in

　　The book is bound in leather. 这本书是用皮面装订的。

　　The girl in red is my cousin. 那个穿红衣服的女孩是我表妹。

　　The teacher entered into the classroom，book in hand. 老师拿着书走进教室。

　　2. for

　　He is the last person for such a job. 他最不适宜担任这项工作。

　　He took me for his brother. 他把我当成他的哥哥。

　　He went to the classroom for books. 他去教室取书。

　　3. against

　　It was a try against time. 那是一次争取时间的努力。

　　Your behavior was against the rules of the hospital. 你的行为违反了医院的规定。

　　Is he against or for this design? 他对这个设计反对还是赞同？

　　He hit his head against the wall in the dark. 他在黑暗中把头撞在了墙上。

　　4. above

　　The temperature has been above the average recently. 最近的气温一直高于平均温度。

　　Applicants must be above the age of 25. 申请人的年龄必须超过25岁。

　　The man who is above his business may one day find his business above him. 不屑于干自己工作的人，终会有一天发现自己不配干那份工作。

　　5. on

　　Perkins went into law on his father's will. 珀金斯遵照父亲的意愿步入司法界。

　　I am here on business. 我是出差来这里的。

　　What impressed me most is the carpet on the floor. 给我印象最深的是铺在地板上的地毯。

　　Congratulate you on your success! 祝贺你获得成功！

　　6. after

　　The police are after you. 警察正在追捕你。

　　Jim was named after his father. 吉姆的名字是根据他父亲的名字取的。

　　He is a man after my own heart. 他是一个合我心意的人。

　　7. from

　　That is the present from his girlfriend. 那是他女朋友送给他的礼物。

　　He is from a poor miner family. 他出身于一个贫穷的矿工家庭。

　　We should know right from wrong. 我们应辨别是非。

　　8. others

　　I shall be with you in a few minutes. 我一会儿就来陪你。

　　We mustn't judge a stranger by appearances. 我们不可以貌取人。

　　My elder brother was through college in 1989. 我哥哥于1989年大学毕业。

　　The old man became happy at her words. 老人听到她的话高兴起来。

　　“Coming!” She skimmed over the lawn, up the path, up the steps, across the veranda and into the room. “来啦！”她蹦蹦跳跳地跑来，越过草地，跑上小径，跨上台阶，穿过走廊，进了房间。
