英语中表示比较意义时不仅能用形容词或副词的比较级,也可用其他词语来表达,本文想对后一种情况作一简单介绍,供大家参考。

　　一、用表示等同的词语same,the same...as, like, alike, equal,similar, identical等。例如:

　　1. They are of the same size.它们大小一样。

　　2. I am the same age as you.我和你同岁。

　　3. Mother and daughter were alike in their fear of dogs.母女二人同样怕狗。

　　4. A cat is similar to a tiger in some way.猫有好几点同虎相像。

　　5. We have identical views on this problem.在这个问题上我们意见相同。

　　6. Is he your equal in strength.他的力气与你一样大吗。

　　7. He climbs the tree like a monkey.他爬起树来像猴子一样。

　　二、用outlast, outsell, outdo, above, over, before, in comparison with, not to be compaired with, exceed, excel等词语表示一方超过另一方。例如:

　　1. His grandmother will outlast his grandfather.他祖母会比他祖父长寿。

　　2. He tried to outdo his opponents.他试图胜其对手。

　　3. I outsell all other salesmen for the factory.我为工厂销货比别的推销员都快。

　　4. I value this gift above everything.我视此礼物重于一切。

　　5. A colonel comes before a captain.校官比尉官军衔高。

　　6. A major is over a captain.少校在上尉之上。

　　7. This is not to be compared with that.这个是比不上那个的。

　　8. I am fat in comparison with him.与他相比,我胖。

　　9. Beijing exceeds Wuhan in size.北京(面积)比武汉大。

　　10. He excels me in knowledge.他学识胜过我。

　　三、用below, under, behind, next to, the next best, second to, not up to等词语表示一方不及另一方。例如:

　　1. I'm below him in intelligence.我的智力比他差。

　　2. The total falls under what was expected.总数比预计的低。

　　3. I am behind the others in English.我的英语比别人差。

　　4. This kind of car is the next best.这种轿车仅次于最好的。

　　5. This river's flow into the sea is only second to that one.这条河流的入海量仅次于那条河流。

　　6. Next to music, I love football best.除音乐外,我最爱足球。

　　7. She is not up to her sister as an actress.她的演技不如她妹妹。

　　四、用inferior to(劣于),superior to(优于), junior to (年幼于,资历低于),senior to(年长于)等表示一方不及另一方或者一方超过另一方。例如:

　　1. These goods are inferior to those.这些货物不如那些。

　　2. He is junior to me by several years.他比我年轻几岁。

　　3. He is ten years senior to you.他比你年长十岁。

　　4. This cloth is superior to that.这种布比那种布好。

　　五、用否定词+ match / rival / surpass,或have no equal in, top, supreme, topmost, above all, second to none等表示最高意义。例如:

　　1. No one can match her in singing.谁唱歌也不如她。

　　2. None of you can rival him in strength.你们当中没有人力气比他大。

　　3. He has no equal in music.他在音乐方面没有匹敌(对手)。

　　4. Li Ming is top of our class.李明是我们班上最好的学生。

　　5. They top us all at football.他们的足球比我们都踢得好。

　　6. He is second to none.他首屈一指。

　　7. And above all, don't tell anybody about the secret.最重要的是,此秘密不要告诉任何人。

　　六、用bottom, minimum, nothing等词语表示最低意义。例如:

　　1. The name of our school stands at the bottom of the list.我们学校的名字在名单最末尾。

　　2. They have reduced their expenses to the minimum.他们已经将费用减至最少额。

　　3. We regard him as a nothing.我们把他看作无足轻重的人。
