二、过去分词

　　英语过去分词可以表示"过去"、"现在"和"完成"等时间概念。

　　1. 表示"过去"时间概念。过去分词表示"过去"的时间概念时，这种表示"过去"的时间概念与句子用什么时态无关。如：

　　Yesterday I read a novel written by Lu Xun.

　　I'm doing the homework assigned by the teacher this morning.

　　Who will accompany the student chosen to be our monitor the other day to attend the meeting？

　　Guided by a girl, we visited a modern farm.

　　这四个句子中谓语动词的时态都不同，但句子中过去分词都表示"过去"的时间概念。

　　2. 表示"现在"时间概念。过去分词可以表示"现在"的时间概念，表示"现在"的时间概念时，句子的时态常用一般现在时、现在完成时或现在进行时态。如：

　　The work done every day is of primary importance.

　　We have read the newspaper published in Shanghai.

　　Led by the party, the Chinese are going all out to build their country into a powerful socialist country.

　　Seen from the top of the hill, the city looks more beautiful.

　　3. 表示"完成"时间概念。过去分词可以表示"完成"的时间概念，但表示"完成"时间概念的过去分词一般是不及物动词的过去分词，而且都作前置性定语。如：

　　The risen sun was shining brightly.

　　There are many faded flowers in the garden.

　　The retired workers are doing good deeds for the people.

　　The developed countries should help the developing countries in developing economy.

　　The manager is receiving the newly arrived guests.

　　这几个句子中的过去分词都是由不及物动词构成的过去分词，都表示"完成"的时间概念。

　　除了不及物动词构成的过去分词可以表示"完成"时间概念外，有时及物动词的过去分词也可以表示"完成"的时间概念。如：

　　These are the problems left over by the society.

　　Is there anything planned for tonight?

　　This is something unheard of in history.

　　The experience gained will be of great value to us.

　　4. 表示"将来"时间概念。一般说来，过去分词不能表示"将来"时间概念，如要表示"将来"时间概念必须用动词不定式的被动式来表示。如：

　　The meeting to be held tomorrow is very important.

　　We will closely cooperate with you in the business to be carried out in the future.

　　To be delivered tomorrow, the goods will reach the destination next week.

　　这三个句子中的动词不能都用过去分词来代替。但是过去分词作宾语补足语时，过去分词可以表示"将来"时间概念。如：

　　Please keep us informed of the market position at your end.

　　We will get everything straightened up.

　　I will make myself clearly understood when I talk to the foreign guests this afternoon.

　　这几个句子中的过去分词都作宾语补足语，都表示"将来"时间概念。

　　了解现在分词和过去分词所表示的具体的时间概念对于正确使用这两种分词，正确理解这两种分词所表达的意思是十分重要的。如果望文生义，只从字面意义去理解这两种分词所表达的时间概念，有时会造成误解，引起不必要的错误。(全文完)
