Each year, several thousand people are killed on the roads in Great Britain. Every year between l00,000 and 200,000 people are injured (受伤), or killed in road accidents.

If you are in England and if you listen to the eight o'clock news from the BBC, you will often hear news of road accidents. You may hear something like this: "On Monday evening, at about twenty minutes to ten, a cyclist was knocked down by a truck at the crossing of Oak Road and High Street in Croydon. The cyclist has died from his injuries. Anyone who saw the accident please contact with New Scotland Yard, telephone number White Hall one two one two. "

Accidents are often caused (导致) by carelessness. If everyone obeyed the rules, the roads would be much safer. How can we make the road safe?

In Great Britain traffic keeps to the left. Motorcars, trucks, buses and bikes must all keep to the left side of the road. In most other countries traffic keeps to the right.

Before crossing the road, stop and look both ways. Look right, look left, look right again. Then, if you are sure that the road is clear, that there is nothing coming, it is safe to cross the road. If you see small children, or very old people, or blind people, waiting to cross the road, it is a kind act to help them to cross the road in safety.

We must teach young children to cross the road safely. We must always set them a good example. Small children shouldn't play in the streets.

Three years ago, my family got our first computer. Now, it's too old; I want to get a new one. At the beginning of the summer, my father and I talked for a long time, he finally agreed to my request.

We went to many stores, and looked at many flyers (小广告), at last we bought an HP computer.

During the first week, I noticed that our computer had some problems. I spent many hours trying to fix it, but it didn't work, and finally I had to phone the HP company to ask them how to work out my problem. They told me to wait until next morning because all their technicians (技术人员) were busy that day.

I waited until the next afternoon but they still had not returned my call. Finally they called, and many phone calls back and forth, and after spending many hours trying to mend it, the computer still did not work. My dad didn't have a choice; he returned the whole thing.

A few days later, we decided that I should go on the Internet and order some parts to build a new computer by myself.

It was not an easy thing for me to deal with it, but in the end I finished. From these setbacks (挫折), I have learned, and now believe that if the computer that I bought from the store didn't have problems, then I would not have learned how to build the new one. Even though I spent lots of time on it, I know it wasn't a waste of time.

I now have a self-built computer, and I am very content.
