　　【析】 repeat本身含有“say or do sth. again”之意，为了避免重复，不可再用again，但可以说say it again。

　　18. 那个男孩的名字叫杰克。

　　【误】 The name of the boy is called Jack.

　　【正】 The boy is called Jack.

　　【正】 The boy's name is Jack.

　　【正】 The name of the boy is Jack.

　　【析】 name与be called不能同时使用，以免重复。我们不可以说：My name is called Kate.

　　19. 这是一本极好的故事书。

　　【误】 This is a very excellent story-book.

　　【正】 This is an excellent story-book.

　　【析】 excellent, wonderful 等词本身就含有“极好”之意，因此不可用very来修饰，它相当于very good。例如：This is a wonderful film.

　　20. 那个婴孩不再哭了。

　　【误】 The baby cried no longer again.

　　【正】 The baby cried no longer.

　　【正】 The baby didn't cry again.

　　【正】 The baby didn't cry any longer.

　　【析】 no longer相当于not any longer，含有“不再”之意，因此again是多余的，应去掉。

　　21. 我很快就到了那里。

　　【误】 In a minute, I got there very quickly.

　　【正】 In a minute, I got there.

　　【正】 I got there very quickly.

　　【析】 in a minute和very quickly都含有“很快”之意，二者不可同时使用。

　　22. 你收到她的来信了吗？

　　【误】 Have you heard from her letter?

　　【正】 Have you heard from her?

　　【正】 Have you received / gotten a letter from her?

　　【析】 hear from含有“收到某人的来信”之意，它相当于receive or get a letter from sb. ， 因此后面的letter是多余的。

　　23. 战争结束后，他成了一名汽车司机。

　　【误】 After the end of the war, he became a bus driver.

　　【正】 After the war, he became a bus driver.

　　【析】 句中after为介词，含有“在……以后”之意，end意为“结束、终止”，用了after，不可再用end。

　　24. 上星期天，我们看望了那位老年人。

　　【误】 We visited to see the old man last Sunday.

　　【正】 We visited the old man last Sunday.

　　【析】 visit 含有“come or go to see (a person or place)”之意，因此后面的see是多余的。

　　25. 我们应当全心全意为人民服务。

　　【误】 We should serve for the people heart and soul.

　　【正】 We should serve the people heart and soul.

　　【正】 We should work for the people heart and soul.

　　【析】 serve本身含有“work for (为……服务)”之意，作及物动词时不可以再接for。

　　26. 我把钱还给他了。

　　【误】 I repaid the money back to him.

　　【正】 I repaid the money to him.

　　【正】 I repaid him the money.

　　【析】 repay本身含有“pay back(偿还，还钱给)”之意，因此后面不必再接back。

　　27. 我们寻找你，找遍了整个大楼。

　　【误】 We looked for you throughout the whole building.

　　【正】 We looked for you throughout the building.

　　【析】 throughout含有“到处，遍及”之意，因此后面的whole是多余的。

　　28. 他们下午集合。

　　【误】 They will meet together in the afternoon.

　　【正】 They will meet in the afternoon.

　　【析】 meet本身含有“集会，会合”之意，相当于come together, 因此后面的together应去掉。例如：

　　The path meets the road in a village. 这条小路在一个村子里与大路会合。

　　29. 油和水不能结合在一起。

　　【误】 Oil will not unite together with water.

　　【正】 Oil will not unite with water.

　　【析】 unite含有“join together into one”之意，因此后面的together是多余的。

　　30. 你不能让你的房间还是那个样子。

　　【误】 You can't let your room remain like that yet.

　　【正】 You can't let your room remain like that.

　　【析】 remain含有“go on being, continue in the same state”之意，因此后面的yet应去掉。
