　　A great way to experience some of the historic buildings and culture of the Garden City is by taking the Christchurch Tramway. Trams,or electric streetcars, were first introduced in New Zealand in 1905.

　　Although the streetcars were phased out during the 1950s, they have been brought back as a tourist attraction. They follow a loop around central Christchurch, passing interesting sites like Cathedral Square, the Arts Centre, Canterbury Museum, and the Botanical Gardens.

　　The Botanical Gardens cover an area of 30 hectares, most of which lie near the Avon River. In addition toshavingsthe best collection of native plants in New Zealand, the gardens contain numerous trees and flowers from overseas. The popular Rose Garden in the center of the Botanical Gardens contains 250 different kinds of roses, helping the Garden City live up to its name.
