  Formal University Education or Informal

  Higher Education?

姓名  赵倩云  山东省青岛市青岛二中  学校  高三、15班级  准考证号  0347

Some people hold the opinion that universities are the ideal place for young people to receive higher education, while others cast serious doubts on it and claim that informal higher education such as evening classes and open universities are more desirable。

From my perspective, both ways of education have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. But if someone were to ask me about the question, I would prefer university education. There are numerous reasons why I consider university education superior to informal education. Here I would like to explain a few of the most pertinent ones as follows:

First of all, it is obvious that university students have much time to study, so that they can put themselves into their studies and concentrate more. On the contrary, with works taking up so much of their time, people who receive informal higher education are probably not able to study whenever they want。

Second, students in universities spend much time together, and are more likely to get acquaintant (acquainted). With this familiarity, they can cooperate in their studies and experiments, thus enhancing their friendship and intellectual skills as well. What is more, university students also compete for higher grades, thus equipping them with the ability to compete, which is of great importance when they enter society. Comparatively, as people who attend evening classes are from all walks of life with diverse experiences, they are liable to be total strangers rather than intimate friends。

Last but not least, in universities, experienced and famous professors often give lessons with a carefully planned teaching plan, which enable the students to study in a more effective and efficient way. Those who do not attend universities, however, might study for a while then rest for a long period with a low efficiency。

Under some conditions, however, students in universities might be less industrious than people who receive informal higher education and indulge themselves in the material world, for they are less restricted in their lives. This cannot be denied out of hand。

Nevertheless if all the factors are considered, it is apparent that the advantages of students receiving formal university education far outweigh those of studying in formal (informal) higher education. In the light of the above, we can conclude that universities are actually the best place for young people to acquire knowledge!

More than One Way to the Square

Over the years, it has been a dream to (for) many young people to receive higher education by attending universities. However, as the modernization deepens, many correspondence courses, evening classes and even open universities have appeared to give the young higher education. Personally, I think both ways of education have their pros and cons。

First, universities can create a rich (competitive) environment in which the young feel urged to learn while open universities and other forms of education cannot。

Second, universities tend to have a scientific education system which consists of teaching methods, professors and specific facilities. However, this is exactly where (去掉) the weak points of other education forms are (去掉)。

On second thought, other education forms have their strong points as well. For instance, correspondence courses or evening classes have more hands-on activities which not only provide the young with knowledge but also social experience. There, young people can meet different people from different backgrounds。

An American publisher, Forbes, once said: “The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one. “ Therefore, in this age of modernization, it seems meaningless to force us young people to choose between university education and informal education. One can make up his or her mind as one sees fit。

In my point of view, I prefer to go to universities first in order to lay a solid foundation on my skills. In my spare time, I’d like to choose other forms of education to spice up my learning interests and enrich my social experience。

More than one way to the square. With the combination of all the education forms, I’m optimistc (optimistic) that my generation will march together to a bright future and reach our brand-new goals。

  Formal is Better than Informal

All roads lead to Rome. With the development of technology and education, we enjoy the privilege of modern civilization to the most. Universities are not the only choice for hundreds of thousands of students who are eagerly hunting for their future and chasing after their dreams. Informal higher education, which is more and popular these days, provides us many (去掉) more ways, gives more people the opportunity to get better education and in this way turns to a new page in the history of education. It includes correspondence courses, going to (去掉) evening classes and open universities and so on in informal education (去掉). As the choices vary, we are in face of a new question of what (which) to choose. In my opinion, formal education is still more effective and desirable than others。

Some people are in favor of informal education for the reason that they are free to choose what they want to learn. Also they can take the courses in their spare time, so they can work as well as study (while studying). What’s more, they say taking a certain course enhances their skills in a certain field very rapidly, thus they can immediately go to work after learning. But on the other hand, I think, it’s not that promising. First, after a day’s hard work, how can you guarantee your enthusiasm in evening classes? Is it really effective? Second, I doubt whether it’s professional. Experts are limited, so it remains a question: what the teaching level is. Third, after graduation, your certificate is perhaps not acceptable。

Formal university education is indeed the best choice. As you stay in the campus (college), you enjoy the peaceful and profession- al atmosphere of the university. Professors give you better advice and libraries offer you more information. Furthermore, you learn things much more technical and complex when in university. It is a time(插入 when) you put yourself into research and study in university, and the courses are more systematical. Some people think it’s a waste of time to spend four years learning without connection to society. Definitely not! University speeches and other activities can also be a great chance to practice in universities。

Let’s take the leaders in China for example. Our chairman, premier and other important politicians are all from famous universities like Tsinghua or Peking University. It is because good universities make a person wise, change his attitude and enlarge his eyesight. I would say university is a kind of culture, bringing you to the stage of the world. It acts as a window through which you see the world and as a light tower leading you to future。

  Formal Universities and Informal Ones

Higher education, in modern society, is attracting more and more attention. It promises us not only a high (higher) position but also a bright (brighter) future. Therefore, ways of receiving higher education are compared seriously。

Some people maintain that universities are the best place to receive higher education. They believe that formal universities can give young people more professional knowledge and teach them more scientific skills. By learning in these formal ones, young students could form their own knowledge backgrounds both deep (deeply) and wide (widely). However, they can not deny that formal ones are more difficult to go into, and limit the time and opportunities especially for students who want to work first。

Therefore, others argue that informal higher education is better. They say that correspondence courses, evening classes and open universities give more opportunities for everyone. They let you work and study at the same time. Besides, they also point out that universities give students more knowledge that may not be used in their future work. On this point, informal ones give them more practical skills and give them the chance to put what they have learned into practice. But, informal ones could not give students knowledge deep enough for them to do research and their quality of education can not be con- firmed。

Comparing these two kinds of education, I prefer universities to informal ones. I think learning in formal universities is more effective and desirable. Knowledge, in the first place, can be taught more wide (widely) and deep (deeply). We can gain more top (latest) information from these schools especially top universities. What’s more, we learn in good environment. Formal universities can give us a historical culture background. Their thick learning atmosphere (good atmosphere of learning) can inspire students to work hard and study hard. Besides, they have more research programs. Participating in these research programs will surely give us a better chance to go deep (further) in the field。

Let me take the top universities as examples. Students could be well educated in these schools because of the high quality of their professors. What’s more a lot of universities have fatastic (fantastic) science facuties (faculty) which run top in the world. Students can see the scientific masters, talk to them and learn from them. All these advantages are wonderful that can not be matched with. In addition, society recognize (recognizes) more university degrees than the informal ones。

All in all, the formal universities are the best place to go. More scientific and wonderful, they will surely give me a wonderful future. If I were a leaf, then the formal university would be my motherland. The baby will certainly go to its mother both eagerly and happily! Choose a university, choose a bright future!
