Which is More Effective?

　　Universities are widely accepted by the whole society as formal institutions of higher education. They definitely has (have) trained a large number of outstanding persons. However, there’re also many people who achieved success by self-study or going to evening classes. So which is more effective, formal university education or informal higher education?

　　In my opinion, it’s the person that matters but not the form of education. Both forms of education have the advantages and disadvantages. Take universities for example, in the first place, financed by the government, universities can offer better environment, superior living facilities. Secondly, many universities have their unique spirits which students could feel and be infected. Thirdly, the full-time study can make the students put their whole heart into their study so as to make great and rapid progress. But on the other hand, the high (expensive) education fee force a lot of students especially who (插入 are) from rural places to abondon (abandon) their further education. As students don’t have enough time to know about the society, perhaps there are a considerable number of student (students) will be unfit for the highly competitive modern society. Obviously, the number of universities can’t meet people’s need. Thus the students in middle schools have to face the heavy study load to go to a better university。

　　Compared with formal university education, people who choose the correspondence courses or evening classes can have more freedom. To illustrate, my sister was forced to leave school after graduating from junior high school because of poverty. She was so eager to study that she (插入 was) determined to learn by herself in her spare time. In the daytime, she was busy (插入 with) working. But when she finished working, she would start learning until late. Sometimes she even burnt the midnight oil. It goes with saying that where there’s a will there’s a way. She then went to evening classes. Finally, she became a professional lawyer after these years. She succeeded。

　　There are many people who achieved their goal by themselves. Either formal or informal education is just the way by which we gain success. A person with strong mind, and determination will always win no matter which way he choose (chooses). Bill Gates become the wealthiest man without fishing (finishing) his university study. We are the most decisive factors. “Gold will shine no matter where it is. “ But once we choose either formal education or informal education, we should settle down and put whole heart into it. Get rid of laziness and make a scientific plan. Only in this way can we get the true joy of achieving our goals。

　　University, a Dream Place

　　“What’s your dream (ideal) university?” I often hear this question raised by my classmates. Many of us have been longing for attending a university ever since childhood, so nine out of ten times, you can expect to get an answer without much difficulty. However, if I ever ask my friends, “Which open university are you interested in,” I think they’ll treat me like an alien and refuse to answer the question. So, why? Because formal university education has its superiorities (superiority) to informal one and is always the first choice for high school students。

　　Universities have a long and glorious history on this planet and they have been playing an important role in the development of man- kind. The word ‘academy’ actually originated from Plato’s education institute in ancient Greece. On the contrary, however, informal higher education didn’t come into being until 20th century, so it has a much shorter history. So these are the two forms of higher education(插入 system) currently and personally (separately). Although both are needed, I still think the formal one is more desirable。

　　With the fast development of science and technology, people’s life has been considerably improved. But have you ever thought about to whom we should be grateful? The universities. The vast majority of these inventions are accomplished in labs of universities. With abundant resources and advanced equipment (equipments)， universities have incomparable advantages of (in) innovation. For students who are determined to make contributions to all the human beings, it’s certainly their first choice to attend a university instead of taking informal education. Because we seldom hear some (any) open university recently made an exciting breakthrough, do we?

　　But some may argue that not all the people are able to attend a university since there’s a higher threshould (threshold). To some extend (extent)， I agree with that. However, due to expansions of university (the enrollment expansion of university) and policies to reduce tuitions for poor students, actually more and more students can now enjoy life on a (去掉) campus without worrying too much. University education is becoming more popular since more people are getting aware of its importance. If you can (have) a chance to go to a university, you should definitely seize it。

　　Last night, I took a walk on the (去掉) campus of Tsinghua university, and found it really exciting to enjoy campus life. I saw people taking part in various activities including chatting, roller skating and so on. So here comes my third reason why I think university education is better. By taking part in social life on campus, one can learn how to form team work and take the leadership. There are different organized programs among the students, which are not available in open universities. I believe universities are established in the hope to make youngsters prepared for the future both academicly (academically) and socially. In this sense, activities really count。

　　I’m now a senior high student, and I really love to be a university student one day. University is a place where caterpillars change in- to butterflies and where I can think freely. Again I want to say,

　　standard higher education is important, and I’m working on to attend my own dream (ideal) university。
