  5 Study the following picture carefully and write an essay in which you should:

  1. describe the picture;

  2. interpret the meaning of the picture;

  3. make your comment.

  You should write 160~200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.

In the picture, a bird, resting on a branch, is looking up into the sky. Under the picture there is a sentence: “For the birds that cannot soar, God has provided low branches.”

  I cant help thinking a lot over this meaningful and thoughtprovoking proverb. It is natural for us to admire eagles that can fly high in the clouds, but there are fundamental differences between eagles and those little birds. While eagles are resting among the high mountains, little birds can always find their own low branches.

  In my belief, this contrast resembles our real life in at least two aspects. In the first place, a person should come to terms with himself and the world around him. He should not be frustrated with what is beyond his reach. He should be content to go as far as he could. Moreover, we should never be afraid to give our best to what seemingly are little jobs. If we do such jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves. Most people would succeed in small things if they were not troubled with great ambitions.

  Up until now we finally realize that little birds that cannot soar can always find their own low branches and write their own life stories. It is magical and incredible for us to find that if we come to understand our own limits and try our best inside such limits, we may go beyond them and accomplish wonders eventually.

The Professor and the YoYo一文,该文以细腻的笔触近距离地描述了Einstein作为普通人的一面,其中第二段给人留下了深刻的印象:

  …He was the only person I knew who had come to terms with himself and the world around him. He knew what he wanted and he wanted only this: to understand within his limits as a human being the nature of the universe and the logic and simplicity in its functioning. He knew there were answers beyond his intellectual reach. But this did not frustrate him. He was content to go as far as he could.

  I recommend you to take care of the minutes, for the hours will take care of themselves. (Lord Chesterfield)

  If I take care of my character, my reputation will take care of itself. (D.L.Moody)

  If you go in for argument, take care of your temper. Your logic, if you have any, will take care of itself. (Joseph Farrell)

  Dont be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves.(Dale Carnegie)

  Most people would succeed in small things if they were not troubled with great ambitions.

  (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
